Happy Windmill Day!
Today in Seminary one of the teachers bore his testimony to us of how scripture mastery gives you power. I wish I could remember his exact words, but it really was an a-ha! moment for me.
I have loved this year in Seminary so much. We have been studying the Old Testament, one of my five favorite chunks of scripture. I am so glad that I was able to have my dad as my teacher this year - I appreciate the effort he puts into his lessons. In church, you read the scriptures, you find the principles, but we don't always understand them. It's not your teacher's fault, the scriptures were written in a different time in a different language. You may say, It doesn't matter, it's been translated, hasn't it? But there are so many things that had an entirely different meaning back then. One lame example is when they reference a servant. Unfortunately, it is just a nice word for a high-up slave. There wasn't much they could do to alter their social class.
My dad did the dirty work, dug into research and sources that I never dreamed of in order to truly understand the Jewish culture and their crazy shenanigans.
Gracias Papa!
I have always loved the Old Testament; when I was younger, it was for the stories, and now that I have matured, it is for the stories.
Often parables are used as a method to make a subject or message more understandable to the reader. As a kid, I often just looked at the surface, reveling in the candy-glossed characters and the yummy fiction. (These parables and other tales are probably what started my passion for reading.) I only occasionally peered into the depths of the meanings hidden behind the words, and when I did, I quickly forgot once a new distraction came around. Yet stories have so much power, so much respect from me. They can connect to people of all ages, give inspiration and imagination, soothe nerves and excite the mind. They have helped me to gain a better perspective, to try a new lens. I owe books so much - they have shaped my life.
I am attempting to write a few fables for a Personal Progress project. I don't know if it will get anywhere, because I always tend to give up on stories early on. We'll see.
Now for some important business.
Harry Potter.
This is the most perfect description of Pottermore competition that I have ever laid my eyes upon. The current winner normally flips between Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, Ravenclaw - that may or may not create hard feelings within Abby and I's relationship.
But get this.
What is wrong with the world?
We don't need to worry too much though - the balance will return once more, the only thing we must fear is if through some twisted-maniacal plot Hufflepuff squeezes their way to the top. But that will never happen.
Now, for another look inside McCall:
I have a secret. I ship Dramione.
It is just too cute. And I have always had a thing for Draco.
In case you have never heard of Dramione, it is basically Draco/Hermione romance. I think that they would have been adorable together.
The above picture references Drapple, which is Draco/Apple. He has this green apple in some movies, so a whole romance has blossomed from him and his apple. Precious.
Give Dramione a chance.
For me.
xoxo,
McCall
